Beaches -The Cape Peninsula has numerous wonderful beaches - some for walking and exploring, some for surfing and safe swimming. Muizenberg, Fish Hoek and Glencairn are family swimming and surfing beaches. There have been some shark spottings but there will be a warning siren if a shark has been seen and you must leave the water immediately. Noordhoek, Hout Bay, Kommetjie and Scarborough are nearby but the water is colder. Kommetjie beach is renowned for its fantastic surfing - boards can be hired and lessons are available. All these are wonderful walking and exploring beaches.
Chapmans Peak Drive - winds it way between Noordhoek and Hout Bay on the Atlantic Coast on the south-western tip of South Africa. Chapmans Peak Drive is one of the most spectacular marine drives in the world.
Noordhoek -The village of Noordhoek, only a five minute drive from the villa has quaint shops, and numerous restaurants.
Winelands -The Winelands are a series of fertile wine producing valleys a short drive north of Cape Town. You can enjoy a day sampling the local Cape wines whilst admiring the grand architecture and stunning mountain scenery of Constantia, Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschoek.
Safari -No trip to South Africa is complete without a safari visit and Cape Peninsula Holiday Villa is ideally situated within a two-three hour drive of a number of wonderful game reserves. Fairy Glen Private Game Reserve not only hosts Cape Town's nearest Big 5 but also species like blue wildebeest, giraffes, eland, the endangered bontebok, zebras, lynx and oryx. Aquila Game Reserve offers traditional game drives, safaris on horseback, quad biking and 4 x 4 mountain trails. Inverdoorn is another big 5 game reserve less than 3 hours drive from Cape Peninsula Holiday Villa or arrange an overnight trip to any of the game reserves to enjoy all that a South African safari has to offer.
Events -The Cape Argus Pick n Pay Momentum Cycle Tour, one of the largest organised cycle races in the world is an annual event held in March in Cape Town. In 2014 the route once again passes through Noordhoek and Chapmans Peak Drive. The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon, often referred to as The World's Most Beautiful Marathon takes place over the Easter Weekend. This year the route is via Chapmans Peak, Hout Bay and Constantia Nek. Cape Peninsula Holiday Villa is the ideal accommodation choice for entrants and participants of both The Cape Argus Pick n Pay Momentum Cycle Tour and The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon.
Cricket - South Africa Test Matches are held at Sahara Park Newlands, which is only a 20 minute drive from the villa.
Only 30 minutes by car from the villa takes you to the wonderful city of Cape Town, where a whole host of attractions can be found. Visit the Atlantic Seaboard, a beautiful stretch of coast also known as Cape Town's "Riviera", which stretches from the V&A Waterfront on the north shore of Table Mountain all the way down the west side of the cape peninsula. Make sure you make time for a visit to Table Mountain, with stunning aerial views from the revolving cable car.
Activities/Things to Do
Golf -Why not tee-off at one of the local Golf Courses? Westlake Golf Club is a members club and welcomes visitors, or try Clovelly Golf Club close to Fish Hoek. Steenberg Golf Club is a golfing estate surrounded by mountains and vineyards.
Hiking/Walking -There are numerous hiking trails on the surrounding mountains and there is a copy of Mike Lundyʼs Best Walks for you to enjoy and consider which trails you would like to follow. All are graded giving degree of difficulty. There is a small entrance fee to the Silvermine area of Table Mountain at the top of Ou Kaapse Weg.
Horse Riding -What could be more perfect than a horseback ride at sun-set? Sleepy Hollow Horse Riding Centre and Imhoff Equestrian Centre are two of the stables that offer horseback riding on the spectacular Noordhoek beach.
Cycling -Hire bikes or join an organised cycle tour of the Cape.
Surfing -Kommetjie beach is renowned for its fantastic surfing - boards can be hired and lessons are available. The beach is only 15 minutes from the villa.
Kayaking -There is a kayak available at the villa for guest use. The lake does have bass and carp and fishing is a popular activity on the lake.
Tennis -If you are keen for a game of tennis, courts are available at Fish Hoek Tennis Club.
Painting -Painting Courses are available at Dale Elliot Painting Holidays, Villiersdorp, Western Cape.
